I have a cactus obsession lately. And with Valentine’s Day upon us I thought what better way to put my new DIY bar cart (how-to post coming this week) to use than to style a ‘stuck on you’ cactus theme. Cute right? Styling a bar cart is really easy can a great option for small get togethers since you may not have enough treats to set up a full dessert table.
I made some cactus cupcakes for my theme. I used Trader Joe’s vanilla cake mix, and let me tell you this is my new go-to for mixes. It’s not too sweet and has great vanilla flavor. You could totally pass these babies off as made from scratch. For the cactus structure I used a marshmallow. For the green portion I piped lines using a small v tip, for the white needles a small open tip, and the flower was made with a star tip. Super easy and adorable!
My ‘stuck on you’ backdrop was made using my Silhouette Cameo. If you’re doing a lot of paper crafting I highly recommend investing in a die-cutter. There is nothing these machines can’t do!
If you don’t have a lot of items to put on your bar cart, I love the look of honeycomb decorations or balloons on the bottom shelf. They take up space and add a nice pop of color. And they’re inexpensive!
I added some flowers which are an easy and always beautiful way to decorate and add interest to whatever display you’re doing.
Add one or two decorative items to your cart to fill space, but try not to make it too cluttered. Less is more!
